Specialists say latest seasonal flu spreading faster than before

Hong Kong recorded two paediatric deaths since the start of the flu season in the latter part of June.

Some health specialists say the spread of the latest seasonal flu has been faster than prior seasons, adding research is being conducted on whether virus mutation is involved.

This as the Centre for Health Protection said the flu season has been ongoing for more than three months, with flu activity remaining at high levels.

Influenza specialists also reminded parents to immediately seek medical help for their children if they suffer from symptoms such as vomiting or abdominal pains.

For now, flu patients seeking treatment at public hospitals may be prescribed Tamiflu by their doctors, with some in the medical sector noting the medication is effective if taken for five consecutive days at designated periods.
