Vehicle license application for ride-hailing service starts from October

The government is legislating to regulate ride-hailing services and plans to accept vehicle license applications starting in October.

The Transport and Logistics Bureau submitted a written supplement to the Legislative Council's subcommittee on the relevant bylaws: The Transport Department plans to accept ride-hailing license applications in October, announce the results and notify selected applicants in November.

Applicants must first obtain a ride-hailing driver's license ("person's license") before the Transport Department will issue a ride-hailing vehicle license.

Regarding third-party liability insurance for these vehicles, the Bureau initially believes it is more appropriate for the vehicle owner to purchase the insurance to ensure seamless protection when using different platforms.
