Sources say police have arrested legislator Wong Kam-fai on suspicion of drink-driving on Monday. Wong was said to have left the scene after hitting two cars on the campus of Chinese University of Hong Kong, where he works as an engineering professor. The lawmaker apologises for the incident on social media on Wednesday.

It is understood that the traffic accident happened at around 11pm on Monday, when Wong was driving on campus heading home after dinner. But he lost control of the vehicle when reaching the university residence no.11 and collided with another private car. A third private car was damaged during the incident.

Sources say Wong drove away after the crash and parked his car at university residence no. 17. The campus security reported the accident to the police. Authorities found Wong on the campus and required him to conduct a breathalyzer test, which he failed. The lawmaker was arrested on suspicion of drink-driving.

On Wednesday morning, Wong attended the July 1 flag rising ceremony and reception in Wan Chai. He also posted pictures of him and other colleagues at the event on social media. It is understood that the legislator did not report the accident to Legislative Council after his arrest.
