A former US Olympian has been indicted on a single count of property destruction.
He has been accused of vandalising the Reflecting Pool in Washington, DC and is now facing felony charges.
District of Columbia US Attorney Jeanine Pirro stated that on June 19, David Hearn ripped up recently installed sealant on the pool in a deliberate act causing US$1,000 in damage.
67-year-old Hearn is a former Olympic canoe racer who owns a watercraft company.
He told The Associated Press that he reached into the pool to examine the newly peeled coating. He let go shortly after a park worker told him to.
US President Donald Trump said the federal authorities have arrested several people accused of vandalising the newly rehabilitated Reflecting Pool.
