Blaze at a Fujian shoe factory killed at least 28 people

A fire erupted at a shoe factory in Fujian province.

The blaze so far claimed 28 lives.

Videos released by CCTV showed flames engulfing the multi-storey factory.

The fire broke out at around noon in the city of Jinjiang in Fujian province.

Around a dozen people were trapped in the factory rooftop.

Open flames had largely been extinguished by about 5:40 p.m.

Preliminary findings indicate the fire started on the ground floor of the factory.

Shoe-making materials stored in the building were highly flammable and could cause a blaze to spread rapidly, the official said.
