US President Donald Trump reiterates his willingness to continue negotiations with Tehran despite a recent escalation of hostilities. He maintains their fragile truce is ending and threatens massive missile strike on Iran if it acts to assassinate him.

Following more than three months of attempts to secure a ceasefire to end the tensions gripping the Mideast, US and Iranian troops picked up fighting this week in what appeared to be the largest exchange of fire since an interim memorandum was signed.

Donald Trump writes on his website that he has ordered the US military to be prepared to "decimate" Iran if the country carried out or attempted an assassination of the president.

He claims: "1000 Missiles are Locked and Loaded and aimed at the Islamic Republic of Iran, with thousands of more immediately follow, should the Iranian Government act on its threat."

His threat comes after chants for his death erupted at the funeral of Iran's late Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

Trump earlier notes that Washington has consented to Tehran's alleged request to continue negotiations, but stated to them in no uncertain terms that the June 17 ceasefire "is over."

Iran's foreign ministry has a different take. A spokesman for the ministry denies seeking US talks but says they have accepted a visit by the Qatari mediator to Iran.

Tehran points out that US violations have become habitual and it is continuously breaching multiple terms of the peace agreement.

The head of Iran's top security body also warns in a statement Friday that Israel would not be spared from the response if its attacks on Iranian infrastructure continue.

Media reports indicate Israeli leader Benjamin Netanyahu has made clear to the US that he is eager to carry out joint strikes against Iran again.

The proposal is awaiting a nod from Trump.

Briefing the United Nations Security Council, a senior official urges all parties to engage in good faith towards a peaceful and comprehensive resolution of the Iran nuclear issue.

UN Undersecretary-general for political and peacebuilding affairs Rosemary DiCarlo says: "The International Atomic Energy Agency indicated that it had not

conducted any in-field verification activities under the nuclear Non-Proliferation treaty safeguards' Agreement...The Agency also reported a significant deterioration in its situational awareness...It had now lost continuity of knowledge across all of Iran's declared nuclear facilities."
