The Observatory issued the amber rainstorm warning signal at 10 a.m. which remained in effect for five and a half hours.

Heavy thunderstorms battered much of the Guangdong coastline and the northern South China Sea owing to the effects of a southwest airflow.

Areas such as the western New Territories, Islands District and the Central and Western District recorded relatively heavier rainfall of around 30 millimetres.

While Tai O and Green Island near Kennedy Town recorded gusts reaching wind speeds of 80 and 70 kilometres per hour respectively.

Weather authorities note that weather conditions will remain unstable in the next two days.
