New provisions for bamboo and metal scaffolding safety

The amended Code of Practice for Bamboo and Metal Scaffolding Safety takes effect on Friday.

Under the amendment, new provisions include: contractors must ensure materials, such as plastic sheeting and canvas, installed on the scaffolding to fulfill the required standard of fire retardant performance.

The Labour Department says individuals who fail to follow the provisions under the the code may be taken by the court as a factor in determining if they have breached the relevant safety and health legislation.
