Hong Kong's giant panda twins celebrate 2nd birthday at Ocean Park

Saturday marks the second birthday of Hong Kong-born giant panda twins,

Jiajia and Dede, with Ocean Park hosting a celebration event.

The Panda Zone began welcoming visitors at 10am, with some queuing up as early as an hour beforehand.

Secretary for Culture, Sports and Tourism, Rosanna Law, also joins the celebration along with 400 young scouts. After two years of rapid growth, the twin pandas now weigh nearly 60 kilogrammes each.

Law remarks though there remains a noticeable size difference when compared to their mother Yingying, the twins are already showing signs of adulthood.

For now, the twins still share an enclosure with their mother. Visitors hoping to see the trio together should seize the opportunity, for giant pandas are solitary animals.

In captivity, they are usually separated from their mothers at around age two or three.

Panda fans say they treasure these moments all the more, knowing the twins will eventually have to live apart.

During the cub's birthday month, authorities will also roll out panda-themed buses and trams, along with exhibitions, so the public can join the celebration and share the joy.
