Hongkong Post's struggle vis-a-vis competition from logistic companies

Hongkong Post has been struggling with competition from logistics companies which, some say, could deliver parcels straight to the doorstep with more flexible delivery hours.

Hongkong Post raised postage rates in April.

While the rates are still cheaper than many market competitors, the Post Office Trading Fund continues to be in the red since year 17/18.

Lawmaker Priscilla Leung says Hongkong Post should re-assess its positioning with scholars urging Hongkong Post to recruit specialists in e-commerce and sales to strengthen profitability.

Postal officers' labour union, meanwhile, attributes the mismanagement of their finances to the leadership, noting how the last five to six heads of Hongkong Post were all appointed from outside institutions, questioning their familiarity with the operation.
