While day one of the World Humanoid Robot Games in Beijing captured global attention with an opening ceremony featuring synchronised parades of robot formations, the second day delivers pure athletic drama.

During the 400-meter sprints for smaller robots under 1.4 metres held at the the National Speed Skating Oval, Tiangong Omni-04 dashes across the finish line in 45.66 seconds to take gold.

Another robot, Tiangong Ultra, claims victory in the 400-metre race for robots taller than 1.4 metres.

Beyond the track, in the heavyweight boxing ring, a Unitree robot falls, stumbles and collapses while attempting difficult moves in the 80-kilogram category. The trainer says he takes pride in the performance even though it fails to reach the final eight.

The tai chi competition provides stages for droids to try moves including kicks and rotations in the air.

12 gold medals are awarded on Sunday in events spanning across track finals and service scenarios such as hotel reception and household tasks.
