Recurrent healthcare spending in HK hits $34000 per person

The Health Bureau releases Hong Kong’s recurrent healthcare expenditure which sees spending of around 34,000 dollars per person.

The bureau says recurrent healthcare expenditure in the 2024/25 financial year totalled 262.5 billion dollars. That’s up five percent from the previous year and equivalent to around 8.2% of GDP.

Around half of the spending was on public healthcare, while primary healthcare accounted for 30% of total expenditure.

The bureau says the primary healthcare reforms aim to address challenges including an ageing population and the increasing prevalence of chronic diseases.
