Actor Tim Curry dies at age 80. Known for playing colourful villains on stage and on screen, Curry suffered a stroke in 2012 that put him in a wheelchair.

The British-born actor burst onto the scene in 1973 as Dr. Frank-N-Furter in the groundbreaking musical "The Rocky Horror Show" before playing the character in the 1975 cult classic movie adaptation.

Known for his arch humour and gift with voices, his other screen credits include the child-killing monster in Stephen King's 1990 TV miniseries "It," and the smug concierge at the Plaza Hotel in "Home Alone 2: Lost in New York."

In later years, Curry lent his baritone voice to various children's TV series, including "Star Wars: The Clone Wars." Curry earned three Tony nominations over the course of his career,

as well as an Emmy nod in 1994.
