The government also arranged 300 private cars for a stress test at the redeveloped Huanggang Port. The drill involved a 1,000 cross-boundary vehicle trips.

In the latest round of drill, invited private cars first gather in Sheung Shui. Under the lead of authorities, drivers head to the departure level of the redeveloped Huanggang Port.

Passengers are required to leave at the drop-off area with their belongings and go to the inspection hall for immigration clearance procedures that involve fingerprint collection and facial recognition. The entire process lasts about a minute. A baggage check is also required when entering the mainland area.

Meanwhile, drivers at the "joint one-stop" vehicle lane level will go through three car gates. The first gate consists of Hong Kong Customs, the Health Department and Immigration Department. The second gate involves the Shenzhen authorities and drivers only need to present their HKID cards for the clearance procedures. After that, they can drive to the pick-up area to collect passengers.

Some drivers say the process is largely smooth, apart from the moment when they had to wait for the clearance system to update.
