US military renews attack on Iranian targets, kills 5 at wedding

The US military announces the completion of its latest deadly strikes on Iran, leading to Tehran's retaliatory drone and missile attacks against targets at US bases in Jordan. One of the US attacks allegedly killed some wedding guests in Iran.

The US Central Command states Tuesday evening that it has conducted fresh barrage against Iran's military targets that include air defence sites, radar systems and maritime assets, in response to Tehran's attempts to attack commercial vessels and American forces in the Middle East.

According to Iranian media reports, the country's southern coast and a civilian port were under fire.

The Iranian Red Crescent releases a video purportedly showing one US airstrike that hit a house hosting a wedding celebration in the southern city of Kuhestak. Five people were killed and dozens injured, local officials say.

In Hormozgan Province, children and a man being treated at Minab Hospital are wounded from another attack, as shown in a footage posted by media outlet SSNTV.

Iranians fight back by unleashing new attacks at various sites across the region, as blasts are reported over the southern Jordanian city of Aqaba.

A video released by the Iranian military on Wednesday shows what it says are missiles being fired towards US bases.

Separately in Nashville, North Carolina, US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent addresses the G20 finance meeting that his country has some common ground with Beijing after holding talks with his Chinese counterparts, specifically on prohibiting Iran's access to a nuclear weapon and facilitating the free flow of oil and other goods through the Strait of Hormuz.

He says, "As I said, with China on Iran, we have more in common than we have differences. China agrees Iran cannot have a nuclear weapon. China agrees that there has to be free maritime trade in the Strait of Hormuz. China gets 50% of its energy from the Gulf. So I believe it's up to China or incumbent upon China to work toward a solution. We will see how they follow through."

Bessent further elaborates on allies' efforts to side with the US amid the ongoing conflict.

"What I can tell you is that many of our allies came forward and said, we will do whatever is necessary. And they have offered to do whatever they could, whether it is intelligence, economic intelligence and speaking to any entity that supports this treacherous evil regime."
