Large display screen dangled mid-air at HK airport T2

A steel cable on a large display screen came loose this morning at Hong Kong International Airport Terminal 2.

No one was injured.

A circular electronic display screen suspended from the ceiling of the departures hall at Terminal 2 of the Hong Kong International Airport was seen swaying precariously mid-air this morning.

This as one of its supporting steel cables came loose.

The Airport Authority confirmed the malfunction occurred at around 8:30am and an anti-drop safety mechanism was triggered to prevent the installation from plunging to the ground.

Maintenance engineers have secured the fixture with five other similar screens now undergoing safety inspections and the site being cordoned off.

Further investigations are underway.
