Health chief: no WT1 vax from 1600 vials seized but some made purchase

After reports surfaced over suspected sales of the so-called anti-cancer “WT1” vaccine, which is unregistered in Hong Kong, Secretary for Health Lo Chung-mau says no WT1-related injections have been seized yet.

But he says some people have made purchases of these kits from the medical centre that touted the WT1 jabs.

Earlier, the Department of Health raided medical centres suspected of peddling unregistered injections claiming to prevent cancer.

Speaking on an RTHK programme, Lo says 1,600 unregistered vials seized at four of the 16 sites raided.

However, none are the WT1 vaccines.

Three arrests made include a doctor.

Lo notes the vaccines have only been tested on lab mice, but they could be dangerous if used by humans.

The health chief says whether the vials have been destroyed by the centre or whether the cases involved elements of fraud remain under investigation as it’s possible that the clinics touting WT1 vaccines could have used vitamins or saline solutions in their jabs.
