Indonesia kept several airports closed Monday, even though the effects of

the latest volcanic eruption has subsided somewhat.

The eruption of Anak Krakatau continued in intermittent fashion on Monday,

with dark ash emitted and small localised earthquakes experienced.

Aviation authorities say volcanic ash is still present in the airspace

around Jakarta and several other cities, and the closure of the airports

continued throughout much of Monday.

The closure has distrupted more than 2,000 flights and affected

hundreds of thousands of passengers.

Schools in areas affected by volcanic ash temporarily moved class sessions

online to reduce students' exposure to ash.
