Sources say Hong Kong will introduce an automated clearance pilot scheme

for cross-border private cars at the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge

in December, allowing drivers and passengers to clear immigration

while remaining inside their vehicles.

Under the current arrangement, passengers must get out of the vehicles

and process immigration on foot, while drivers proceed through vehicle

lanes separately.

This has led to delays, especially during peak holiday periods.

The Immigration Department will trial using artificial intelligence

and facial recognition at the bridge checkpoint. Multiple cameras

will be used.

It is understood that the scheme will be opened to Hong Kong

permanent residents who have pre-registered.
