The Transport Department begins adoption of the combined written test for taxis and ride-hailing vehicles.

The first batch of candidates arrived at the Cheung Sha Wan Government Offices to sit the exam.

The the multiple-choice test comprises two parts, with 30 questions covering passenger service knowledge, places and routes and 35 questions concerning the code of practice for road users. Candidates must score at least 25 and 30 in the two sections, respectively, to pass.

The exam replaces the existing written test for taxis. Those who already hold a taxi driving licence are exempted from this new test.

The Transport Department received more than 11,000 applications from those wishing to take the new taxi and ride-hailing vehicle combined written test following the government's earlier proposal to issue up to 10,000 ride-hailing vehicle driving licences.
