Bank to help those suspected to have credit cards info stolen

HSBC stated that it has noticed online reports of citizens suspecting their credit cards were fraudulently used to order mobile phones, and the bank will assist with refunds.

Multiple users on social media have reported that their credit cards were suspected of being stolen and used to purchase Apple iPhones. The affected banks include HSBC, Hang Seng Bank, Standard Chartered, and others.

In a statement, HSBC mentioned that if customers experience unauthorized credit card transactions, they can suspend their cards via the HSBC HK App or by calling the bank. The bank will then initiate an investigation and activate the chargeback mechanism in accordance with credit card scheme rules.

HSBC added that 3D Secure transaction authentication provides extra protection, but whether it is implemented depends on the merchant. If customers have used their credit cards with reasonable care and reported the issue promptly, HSBC will assist them in completing the refund process.
