FS stresses HK is actively strengthening ties with Middle East

Financial Secretary Paul Chan said Hong Kong is actively working to strengthen the city's ties with its Middle Eastern partners.

The FS noted on his blog that Oman's second-largest bank -- Sohar International -- has set up its first office outside of the Middle East in Hong Kong.

Omani investment authorities are also planning to participate in the Hong Kong government's Innovation and Technology Venture Fund, through which to enter into a partnership with a local company and inject 250 million dollars' worth of capital.

Sohar is the first Middle Eastern sovereign wealth fund to be involved in the Innovation and Technology Venture Fund.

Chan said the Belt and Road Summit held last week also saw several treaties signed between the Hong Kong Monetary Authority, HKEX and their counterparts in Dubai.
