1st batch of pre-approved contractor list to be out late this year

The Policy Address has proposed to establish pre-approved lists of contractors and consultants for major building renovation projects, Secretary for Development Bernadette Linn says the government aims to publish the first batch of approved firms by the end of this year.

The move follows the Wang Fuk Court fire which has revealed systemic loopholes in overseeing building maintenance works after allegations of bid-rigging and falsification came to light.

Linn says applications to be part of the list could be submitted by the end of the month.

Industry applicants would have to undergo background checks.
