Police officer Chu Chun-kwok to be buried at Gallant Garden

Police officer Chu Chun-kwok, who was left paralysed after a knife attack in 2005, passed away this Wednesday. Sources say he will receive a burial at Gallant Garden potentially with full police honours.

Chu, who was part of an armed police patrol squad in July 2005, was slashed in the neck while conducting a search on a teenager in Sham Shui Po.

The police officer continued to pursue the perpetrator but eventually collapsed from excessive blood loss. His severe injuries left him fully paralysed. Chu was awarded the Gold Medal for Bravery the following year.

The police constable, who remained bedridden for 21 years, died in Kwong Wah Hospital on Wednesday after suffering from organ failure.

Sources say Chu was granted a burial at Gallant Garden -- the cemetery reserved for civil servants who lost their lives on duty.

The fallen officer will reportedly be buried with full police honours, but any arrangement of the ceremony will respect the wishes of Chu's family.

The last burial in the cemetery to be conducted with full police honours was in 2021 for chief inspector Lam Yuen-yee, who died while on duty after a vessel collided with her speedboat.
