Christa Pike, who regained consciousness almost six days after

Tennessee's failed attempt to execute her, is aware of what happened and

her attorney say she is "angry and confused."

This as the US carries out its first execution since the botched incident

grabbed headlines around the world.

Christa Pike lived what her lawyers had earlier called her greatest fear

before she was sent to receive lethal injections that were meant to end her life.

That is, for the execution to go wrong.

And the 50-year-old convicted murder's execution could not have gone

more awry when she was taken to hospital close to two hours after

she was administered two doses of pentobarbital on September 30,

heart still beating.

And for the next six days, her story travelled across the world, sparking

renewed debate over the legal and moral implications of the death penalty.

According to the Death Penalty Information Center,

no one had ever survived a lethal injection during an execution,

let alone two.

But there Pike was on Wednesday, awake, angry and confused,

according to her lawyers who are seeking to commute her sentence.

Her lawyers say the hearing puts into motion the preservation of evidence

as well as raises questions about the source of the pentobarbital administered.

The judge hearing the case granted the request and has asked

the drugs, syringes, IV lines and other medical supplies, as well

as any recoding and surveillance footage to be kept on record.

Despite the uproar, the state of Texas carried out the

execution of Jamaal Howard, a convicted killer who was pronounced dead at 8:03pm

Wednesday after receiving a fatal dose of the same drug as Pike in a Huntsville prison.
