Hong Kong's Centre for Health Protection has implemented a serious of control and prevention measures in relation to the pneumonia death of a Russian lab worker earlier this month.

CHP said it had sought further information from World Health Organisation and the Russian health authorities. It said a key uncertainty remains the absence of a confirmed diagnosis in the deceased worker.

The Centre said there has been no report of residents or travellers arriving from Russia with cases of pneumonia of undetermined cause.

Thus it assesses the immediate public health impact to be low.

However, for the sake of prudence, the Centre has strengthened health surveillance for passengers arriving on flights from Russia at the airport, including temperature checks at relevant gates.

Those who had visited Irkutsk in Russia within the past 14 days are asked to declare their travel history to on-site staff for further assessment.

Any inbound traveller showing symptoms of pneumonia could be transferred to a public hospital for further testing.
