Latest triad bust sees 53 arrests

In the latest police crackdown against triads, 53 people have been rounded up suspected of drug trafficking, prostitution and other criminal activities. After intelligence analysis, police found the group transformed public housing units into drug storage and packaging centres.

On Monday, two local men were arrested in Chai Wan after 3,600 grams of cannabis seeds and related products were seized in their unit valued at about 1 million dollars. Police -- together with the Immigration Department -- also busted illegal prostitution and gambling dens in bars and private clubs in Wan Chai with a total of 25 men and 28 women apprehended. Eleven of them are key triad members.
