Priest dies during mass after being struck by giant cross in Ecuador

A Catholic priest died in Ecuador after a cross fell on him while celebrating mass.

The incident was captured on livestream when Father Patricio Sanchez was celebrating the liturgical service.

The heavy crucifix broke loose from the top of the wall behind him before hitting him in the head.

Several of the faithful who attended mass on site were seen crying for help.

The archdiocese of the city later announced Sanchez's death.

During his final homily, Sanchez reminded parishioners about the inevitability of death and urged his community to place God above material distractions.
