US and Cuban diplomats clash in furious UN shouting match

US and Cuban officials engaged in a dramatic shouting match on the floor of the United Nations General Assembly on Tuesday after the US Ambassador accused the socialist government of sending "thousands" to concentration camps, property seizure, and corruption, forcing the meeting to be suspended.

The row erupted as US Ambassador Mike Waltz spoke against a resolution condemning Washington's economic embargo on Cuba.

As Waltz detailed allegations of corruption and unhumanitarian acts committed by Havana, Cuban delegates banged on tables and shouted points of order.

Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez then walked down the aisle and shouted "You are a liar!", prompting the US envoy to tell him to "back away."

The fiery exchange highlighted escalating political tensions between both nations since US President Donald Trump made clear he sought to force changes upon Cuba's political system.
