Q3 GDP figures likely to mark 15 consecutive months of growth

The government forcasts the economy will reach year-on-year growth faster than market expectations in the third quarter largely due to positive trends in the export sector.

With Hong Kong's Q3 GDP growth set to be announced Wednesday, Financial Secretary Paul Chan said the latest figure will mark 15 quarters of consecutive economic growth.

The city recorded a growth of 5.9 and 4.3% during the first and second quarters of this year respectively, which is higher than the same periods last year by 2.7 and 1 percentage points.

The FS emphasised GDP growth over Q3 was comparatively faster than the previous quarter, marking the largest year-on-year increase over the same period in the past five years.
