Speaking at a United Nations meeting on the Middle East, Sun Lei, Charge d'Affaires of the Permanent Mission of China, puts the blame on the United States for obstructing the Security Council's efforts to secure a ceasefire and end the fighting.

The envoy says the US bears an unshirkable responsibility as it has allowed the conflict in Gaza to spill over and caused escalated tensions in the Red Sea.

He underscores resolving the issue requires respecting international law and the legitimate rights of all countries, including respecting Yemen's sovereignty and territorial integrity.

In addition, Sun points out that amid ongoing negotiations between the Iran and the US, American forces have launched additional military strikes without authorisation from the Security Council, which he says is again pushing the region toward a dangerous abyss.
