A Cathay Pacific flight from Hong Kong to London's Heathrow Airport lost contact with air traffic control while flying over Romania early last month.

CX says the incident involved the flight crew mistakenly tuned the aircraft's radio to the wrong frequency and subsequently failed to notice that communications had been lost.

The Civil Aviation Department says authorities have completed reviewing the full investigative report submitted by CX.

The report says communications equipment operated as normal during the flight.

But flight crew responded to an instruction issued by air traffic controllers to another aircraft.

CX has stepped up its reporting mechanism for aviation safety incidents following authorities' request.
