Saudi Arabia lifts air raid alerts after blasts heard in Riyadh

Plumes of smoke rise after booms are heard near the main airport in Riyadh on Saturday amid intensified bombings by Yemen's Houthi rebels.

Civil defence in Saudi Arabia sent a string of emergency alerts by phone overnight for potential danger of aerial attacks in the city and nearby Al-Kharj before issuing an all-clear in the morning.

The overnight alerts sent by Saudi authorities by phone are the first in the capital city since the escalation began with Houthis in July. No casualties or damage have been reported after they were lifted.

Earlier, the Yemeni Armed Forces release videos claiming to have targeted Houthis at various locations.

The footage purports to show the Yemeni government artillery units destroying combat vehicles belonging to the group.

It's been a week since Houthis stormed down the Red Sea Coast and made a chokehold threatening Saudi Arabia's oil exports.

An attack on the kingdom's east-west pipeline, blamed on Iran-backed militias in Iraq, has prompted Saudi Aramco to halt contracted crude deliveries to European customers in October.
