Xi urges American students to consolidate Sino-US friendly cooperation

As announced by the foreign ministry, President Xi Jinping will travel to America for a state visit from Wednesday to Friday at the invitation of US President Donald Trump. The two leaders are set to exchange views on bilateral relations and major issues regarding world peace and development.

This will be the second personal encounter between Xi and Trump after the pair's Beijing summit earlier in May.

A foreign ministry spokesman has underscored the irreplaceable role the head-of-state diplomacy plays in the strategic guidance of bilateral ties and expressed willingness to join hands with Washington in promoting dialogue and cooperation while managing their differences in a proper manner.

State-run Xinhua News Agency reports that President Xi recently replied to letters written by students from 10 American universities who came to China for a youth exchange programme.

Xi wrote that he hoped youngsters of both nations, who jointly shoulder the mission of our times, can commit to inheriting, safeguarding and advancing Sino-US friendly cooperation to help the two peoples foster deeper mutual understanding and affinity.

The White House says Xi and his wife Peng Liyuan will arrive Wednesday afternoon and Trump will greet the couple at Joint Base Andrews just outside Washington.

A welcome ceremony will be held at the White House the next day followed by the leaders' high-stakes meeting.

Tariffs, trade, the Iran war, AI and Taiwan are widely expected to be among the major focal points.

Tech magnates including Tesla and SpaceX founder Elon Musk, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang and OpenAI CEO Sam Altman are slated to attend Thursday night's state dinner where Trump and Xi will deliver speeches.

On Friday, Xi and Peng will join Trump and his wife, Melania Trump, for a private tea at the White House, before touring the US National Archives.
