Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva and opposition candidate Senator Flavio Bolsonaro made their final campaign push Saturday

in Sao Paulo state, Brazil's political and economic powerhouse, just one day before the country's presidential election.

Sao Paulo is home to about a fifth of Brazil's electorate and is a crucial battleground.

Lula telling the crowd "We are just hours away from what could be the greatest act of democratic revolution in this country."

Some 34 million people are eligible to vote in the state which has about 46 million residents and an annual GDP of roughly 3.4 trillion reais - around 650 billion US-dollars.

Lula is seeking a fourth nonconsecutive term as the country's leader.

40-year-old psychiatrist Maycon Nunes said "I'm here today to fight for the rights that Brazil's working class has won over the years. Brazil cannot give up on continuing

to grow and continuing to fight. We are going to fight and elect Lula in the first round."

campaign before the first round vote on Sunday.

Earlier polling stations across Brazil prepared for the presidential election.

According to the Superior Electoral Court, nearly 564 thousand electronic voting machines are available for the election.

About 499 thousand will be used for voting with around 65 thousand held in reserve to replace equipment if needed.

Twelve candidates are on the presidential ballot but Lula and Bolsonaro are the leading contenders.

If no candidate receives more than 50 percent of valid votes on Sunday, the top two will advance to a runoff on October 25th.
