Four people from a hiking group in Taiwan died after being struck by rocks in a landslide.

A 16-person hiking group, while walking along a waterfall trail in Heping District, Taichung, was hit by a landslide Saturday.

A large number of rocks tumbled down, and several members did not escape in time and were hit. Four people, including the tour leader, died, and five others were injured.

It is reported when the group set out, the local authorities had already issued a heavy rain advisory, but some team members said, "The weather looked fine in the morning," and they continued with the trip.

Authorities preliminarily believe days of heavy rain caused the landslide.

There had been two fatal landslides on the same trail in the past four years, according to local media.
