Chinese UN envoy urges political solution to Iran nuclear issue

During a UN Security Council meeting on Friday, China and Russia objected to continuing discussion of Iran's nuclear issue under the "non-proliferation" agenda item.

Chinese deputy permanent representative Sun Lei argues the Resolution 2231 expired on October 18 last year, and that the related UN sanctions arrangements on Iran had also been terminated.

Sun urges all parties to remove destablising factors, abandon using or threatening to use force, uphold and implement the outcomes of the US-Iran MoU to reach a solution that addresses the concerns of all sides.
