The Amber Rainstorm Warning Signal Special Announcement was issued by the Hong Kong Observatory at 10:05 a.m.

This means that heavy rain has fallen or is expected to fall generally over Hong Kong, exceeding 30 millimetres in an hour, and is likely to continue.

An active southwesterly airflow brought showers and squally thunderstorms to the coast of Guangdong and the northern part of the South China Sea.

Tsuen Wan and Lantau Island recorded rainfall exceeding 10 mm. Strong gusts of approximately 80 km/h and 70 km/h were recorded in Tai O and Tsing Chau respectively.

The Observatory forecasts mostly cloudy skies today with occasional showers and a few squally thunderstorms.

The weather will remain unstable for the next day or two, with clearer skies expected from the weekend to early next week, but showers are still possible.
