Typhoon Dolphin makes in landfall in Zhejiang, Fujian provinces

Typhoon Dolphin hit the city of Taizhou in Zhejiang province and the northern parts of neighbouring Fujian province after forcing over 300,000 people to preemptively relocate.

The severe storm packed strong winds estimated at 151 kilometers per hour and brought massive waves when it made landfall on China's eastern coast Sunday evening.

Zhejiang authorities have suspended all water-based activities, including ferries and cruises. Hundreds of ferry routes across the two provinces were ordered to halt operations.

Hongqiao and Pudong airports in the densely populated economic hub of Shanghai have cancelled about 60% of expected flights today.

Forecasters predict affected areas could be battered with heavy rainfall of 200-400 mm over the next few days.
