Netanyahu rejects Trump's 15-point Gaza peace plan

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has restated his rejection of US President Donald Trump's latest Gaza plan in televised remarks to his right-wing government. This, even as Israel's military has effectively halted attacks in the territory under pressure from Washington.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu rejected US President Donald Trump's 15-point Gaza Peace Plan at the start of the cabinet meeting in Jerusalem.

Netanyahu says the IDF will not withdraw until Hamas is disarmed, echoing sentiments from his statement last Tuesday which marked a rare public display of friction with the Trump administration.

However, Netanyahu says Israel is still in talks with the US about the document of the plan.

He says Washington has ideas, some of which are acceptable to Israel and some of which are not.

Netanyahu says his government knows how to stand its ground on these matters.

Netanyahu's remarks cast more doubt on the deal to disarm Hamas, which was seen as a potential breakthrough for ending the war.

The agreement calls for Hamas to begin disarming and for Israel to halt its strikes and begin withdrawing from the roughly 60% of Gaza it currently controls.

It was based on an October ceasefire agreement that ended major military operations and brought about the release of the remaining hostages held in Gaza but has stalled on other fronts.

Netanyahu also addresses Iran and Lebanon. He reiterates that as long as he is Prime Minister, Iran will not possess nuclear weapons and adds the existence of Israel is not up for negotiation.

Regarding Lebanon, Netanyahu says in in recent days, Israel has operated forcefully there, eliminating terrorists-including on the Ali al-Tahir ridge.
