CLP & HK Electric fuel cost adjustment hikes in Sep

The city's two power companies have announced hikes in fuel cost adjustment for next month.

Hongkong Electric's fuel surcharge for September will be 60.7 cents per kilowatt-hour, marking an increase of 3.4 cents from August.

Including the basic tariffs, the total net electricity charge for September is 188.6 cents per kWh, which will be 1.8% higher than that in August.

Hongkong Electric says the hike in fuel adjustment fees mainly reflects the fuel costs from May to July this year as international energy market prices remain volatile. The power firm adds it expects that fuel adjustment fees will remain at relatively high levels in the future.

CLP's fuel adjustment fee in September, meanwhile, will stand at 45.1 cents per kWh, marking a slight rise of 0.1 cents from August.

The net electricity tariff for September will be 146.3 cents per kWh.
