The Hong Kong Tourism Board releases August's visitor numbers,

with 5.46 million travellers marking a 6% spike year-on-year.

This marks a post-pandemic monthly high.

The Tourism Board cites the number of large-scale international events

including the Hong Kong Football Festival, and the the TME Live International

Music Awards, as key to attracting tourists from Chinese Mainland as

well as those from Singapore and the UK.

Chinese Mainland tourists clocked an 8% year-on-year increase, totalling 4.57 million.

Non-Mainland and long-haul travellers saw growth as well, marking

an 18% and 10% growth, respectively.

This, while non-Mainland short-haul travellers recorded a decline.

The Tourism Board says hikes in fuel surcharges is among the attributing

factors to this decline.

The first eight months of the year has seen more than 36 million tourists

come through the borders of the city, marking an annual growth of 11%.
