Mosque bombing leaves at least 15 dead in Pakistan

An attacker rams an explosives-laden vehicle into the mosque near a building housing police offices in northwestern Pakistan, killing at least 15 people and wounding 56 others, police and rescue officials say.

At least two armed gunmen also attempted to enter the police compound and exchanged fire with officers. The bombing occurred in Kohat, a district in Khyber

Pakhtunkhwa province bordering Afghanistan. Hospital officials confirm five police officers and 10 civilians were among the dead while most of those wounded were

worshippers.

No group immediately claimed responsibility for the attack, but suspicion is likely to fall on the Pakistani Taliban. The attack came as violence has surged in the region with security forces targeting militants.
