Iran willing to open Strait of Hormuz if US lifts blockade on ports

US President Donald Trump has posted an image of the Strait of Hormuz labelled "Trump Strait" shortly after Iran proposed a deal to open the waterway within a week if the US meets certain conditions.

Speaking to reporters at the United Nations Headquarters in New York, Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi said

his country has conveyed a plan to the United States under which the Strait of Hormuz could reopen within seven days if necessary conditions are met.

Seyed Abbas Araghchi, Foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic of Iran said "The seven-day timeline will start as soon as the United States accept this plan.

So if they accept this plan tomorrow, the seventh day would start from tomorrow. There are certain actions to be taken by the United States,

and we believe that these actions can be taken in 4 or 5 days. So in day six, the Strait will be open. And on day seven,

the talks with the US will be started for the final deal on mutually agreed subjects. The actions that the United States should take are not new.

They are all already in the MOU. They are already under the commitments of the United States, so we don't see any difficulty to implement them."

Iran offered to open the Strait of Hormuz and resume talks on its nuclear programme within seven days if the US lifts its

naval blockade of Iranian ports, waives sanctions on Iranian oil sales and observes a ceasefire that includes Lebanon.

Iran's President Masoud Pezeshkian said that renewed talks with the United States are taking place amid a very bad atmosphere of distrust, accusing Washington of failing to honour its commitments. He said trust could only emerge when countries remain committed to what they agree to.

This as head of Yemen's internationally recognised government urged Yemenis to rally behind the Saudi-backed armed forces

and allied groups in their fight with the Iran-backed Houthis.

Rashad al-Alimi said the aim of the fighting is to restore his government's control over Sanaa, the capital, which the Houthi's seized since 2014.

Meanwhile Palestinians in Gaza remain uncertain about their future following the speech by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at the United Nations.

This Gaza City resident said, "When Netanyahu delivered his speech, he made no mention of the people of Gaza, we do not figure in his calculations. It is a truly frightening situation, we do not know what lies ahead for us."

Netanyahu addressed the plenum after days of speeches by world leaders condemning Israel's war in Gaza and accusing him of orchestrating a genocide against the Palestinian people.
