French President Emmanuel Macron slams foreign manipulation of information in the aftermath of the recent riots sweeping France.

Authorities have imposed localised curfews in several cities and promised massive policy deployments for more protests expected this Saturday, while Hong Kong issues an Amber Outbound Travel Alert for the country.

Speaking in Doha, Qatar, at the end of his tour of key energy suppliers in the Gulf, Macron maintained there had not been visible foreign interference of the looting in Paris, but there were "foreign manipulation of information in the aftermath" which led to unacceptable and even stupid comments by many.

Macron said some foreign leaders "who are in the middle of election campaigns, whether in the region or on the other side of the Atlantic," were using France to rally their own political supporters, stressing "We don't need that."

His criticism appears to relate to claims by US President Donald Trump that the protests were about immigrants.

On Tuesday, Paris, Marseille, Lyon and other major cities have imposed overnight curfews variously restricting people and gatherings in areas of the city centre after a weekend marred by rioting, looting and vandalism.

With the Hong Kong government issuing an amber outbound travel alert for France, the Hong Kong Federation of Insurers says insurance covers part of losses in case of trip cancellation.

Some foreign tourists in Paris recalled seeing groups of protesters rushing through the streets, followed by officers.

Australian tourist Chris Summers said, "It was confronting, I was a little scared, but not terrified because I knew they weren't after me, it was the government they're protesting against. But yeah it was pretty scary for a while there, just seeing all these people dressed in black just charging down the street with the police behind them, so."

The French government says it is increasing security and personnel to mitigate further chaos as it braces for another weekend of protests.
