France prepared for a third consecutive weekend of protests over living costs and education, deploying 70,000 police and gendarmes and pushing

the Paris march to the capital's edge as youth-led demonstrations spread across Europe.

Protesters marching through Rome's city centre Saturday. Waving Italian flags demonstrating against rising living costs and wars.

This banner reading " 800 billion for weapons, zero euros for healthcare."

65-year-old protester Marina Navarra said "We are here today because what we have been living through in the last years is horrifying, the high cost of living, high price of gas,

all that we have been saying for days now, and we are against war.

Not just Rome, tens of thousands of protesters in 50 cities across Italy took to the streets.

In Genoa, tires burn, thick black smoke rising into the air

In Milan demonstrators blocking and marching on the city's ring road holding a banner that reads "Stop the high cost of living, no to war, no to rearmament. Reduce prices and arms, raise wages."

This union representative from the Lombardy region says "Occupying this space also symbolically means reclaiming a civic space

within this state, which believes it can solve everything through repression, war and rearmament."

In Greece, ships remained docked at some ports on Friday, disrupting ferry services, as dockworkers went on a 24-hour strike.

Some unions demanded better pay and working conditions others took part in an international day of action calling for an end to wars.

President of Dockworkers Union of Piraeus Port Authority Giorgos Gogos said "We don't want to participate in any war, all around the world.

We don't want our ports to be hubs of military material, transferred so as to kill people.

We don't want militarisation because all this expenditure for weapons and military items should be expanded in social security, in welfare, not warfare."

And at the docks in Fos-Sur-Mer in France shipping containers lay idle as dockworkers align with the international campaign

against arms shipment and demand for better working conditions.
