Chief Executive John Lee says the government will adopt a holistic approach to enhance national security and development.

In the first chapter of the Five-Year Plan and the second chapter of the Policy Address, Chief Executive John Lee states the importance of safeguarding national security, which cannot be overlooked when promoting development.

 

"We will take the holistic approach to National security as the guiding principle to crack down on the infiltration, sabotage, subversion and separatist activities by overseas hostile forces and local anti-China destabilising forces."

 

Lee says authorities will strengthen national security eduction targeting the youth to foster their sense of national identity, national affection and sense of nationhood.

 

The government will review and improve its counter-terrorism strategy and monitor global terrorism trends and counter measures. To enhance inter-departmental coordination and to test capabilities in the areas of counter-terrorism intelligence gathering and analysis,

the government will conduct an average of 120 counter-terrorism exercises annually in the next five years. The government will set an interim target to review the effectiveness of its drills -- preparing for a large-scale inter-departmental counter-terrorism exercise every 12 to 18 months.

 

Cybersecurity defence system will also be bolstered for national security.
