Rainstorm warnings in effect throughout morning

Heary rain swept across many parts of Hong Kong on Monday moring under the infulence of a broad area of low pressure.

Hong Kong Observatory first issued the Amber Rainstorm Warning Signal at 7:10 a.m., before upgrading it to Red 55 minutes later. The warning was downgraded back to Amber at 9:30 a.m.

During the rainstorm, the Observatory also issued a Special Announcement on Flooding in the northern New Territories, after Pat Heung and Kam Tin recorded more than 70 millimetres of rainfall.

Looking ahead, the Observatory forecasts that showers along the Guangdong coast will ease from the middle to latter part of the week, with weather gradually turning sunny and hot.

And a low-pressure area is expected to develop the east of the Philippines around midweek. While its exact track and intensity remain uncertain, current forecasts suggest a high probability of the system entering the central and northern parts of the South China Sea at the end of this week, with a general track moving to the western coast of Guangdong.
